What really happened at the Huntington Beach Riots

what? we as surfers are going to somehow be blamed as the cause of this even though it was the cause of a few drunken party crashers trying to mooch off our good time. Might as well be able to have a bit of a laugh.

Rip Curl Padang Cup on High Alert starting today 7/28/13

The 2013 Rip Curl Cup Invitational at Padang Padang has gone on "High Alert" for the first time in the waiting period.
A large Indian Ocean swell forecast to hit Bali on Sunday, July 28th had competitors and contest directors flirting with the idea of running of the Ultimate Tuberiding Contest this weekend. While this weekend's impending swell is the largest swell so far to flare up during the event's six-week waiting period (July 1st - August 15th), contest officials stress that it is still highly unlikely it will be consistent enough to run the ten-year anniversary of the Rip Curl Cup.
"This storm is unusual," said Magic Seaweed Head Forecaster Ben Freeston. "It's small and relatively weak, but so close by comparison to a typical winter season Indo swell that it'll arrive at a size that's right on the edge of the standard set by previous competition. It's proximity made an early call tricky, but it also means this swell will arrive and leave far more quickly than a normal southern ocean winter blast, offering some great surf but over a very limited window either side of an overnight peak."
Many of the 32 invited surfers - 16 of Indonesia's best and 16 of the world's top tube riders - are already in Bali waiting to catch this swell. The rest, including defending champion Chris Ward (USA), Kekoa Bacalso (Hawaii), Jacob Willcox (Australia) and more will be descending on Bali this week to take advantage of this promising swell.
"The swell is looking pretty good for Padang," said invitee Kevin Bourez (Tahiti), who has been staying at the Rip Curl Team House in Uluwatu. "I think there will be some fun waves at Padang but there's only a small chance they will run the contest on Monday. But even if we don't run Monday the waves will still be pumping somewhere on the island and we will still be getting barreled."
Many of the surfers in the contest have made alternate plans in the event the contest doesn't run on this swell. Flights have been booked, cars are packed and ready to go on a swell hunt, and plenty of insane freesurfing will still go down at Padang Padang even if conditions on Sunday/Monday aren't consistent enough to run the ten-year anniversary of the Ultimate Tuberiding Contest.
Stay tuned to live.ripcurl.com for the latest contest call, including a live global webcast if the contest is given the green light, and complete coverage of the freesurfing and swell hunting in Indo by all the invited surfers if the contest remains on standby.

Bla Bla Bla Surfing....Bla Bla Bla Feelings...Bla Bla Bla Surfing Feelings...Bla Bla Bla...

this gentlemen is going to find what he was looking for...whether that is a god thing or not is in question.
Unknown intensely feeling the feelings to be discussed

Be warned. This is a write up on feelings. And surfing. Its one of those surfing-feelings articles.
We are constantly searching as wave sliders. For the best waves, winds, boards, top and bottom contours (geographic and otherwise) the list goes on and on of “things we are hunting down”. But sometimes they just stumble right to (and over) you.
There is that moment. And I am convinced that it is single handedly the finest in our aquatic existence. Not the majestic sunrise, the view from a barrel (always open to disagree-ance), or the site of the set arriving as you crest the dune or look over your bluff.

In fact, it’s getting caught inside. Or more specifically ALMOST getting caught inside.
You are out on the point or peak with a few and somehow with waves passed or laziness or time restraints you find yourself with a bit of separation from the masses. If one comes to you, its just you out there.
Thinking you are in position, a wave arises far into the distances with clear intentions of burying you in its path; zero possibility of harnessing this bundle of hell on liquid wheels, just to get past it. Your heart races, the fact that this beautiful wave steaming towards you is on another scale than all the rest you’ve crossed paths with that day has your adrenaline flowing wondering what’s behind it. But first is first.
You scratch for the horizon, realizing you are FAR from where you need to be if there is even the remote possibility of more like this. It is somewhat like a race where the finish line is racing towards you instead of you towards it, and its getting close, FAST!  Lipping right ahead of you, you throw yourself to the depths as far as our noodle arms can push us and hope for the best.
Here is the height of excitement. Underwater, navigating the plooms of whitewater and bubbles, we somehow ignore our usual instinct to stay deep and to wait it out. We need to get back to the surface. NOW! Eyes wide, we almost scan the horizon for what could be coming THROUGH the water. Anticipation. Everything is possible at this moment. You emerge, that beautiful instant where your eyes clear the water line and for a split second there is no division between sea and sky. Your arms burning and heart racing, body tense with the anxiety of action. Will the second be better than the first? Bigger? Worse? Am I going to have to race outside again to avoid becoming another grain in the sand? Your paddling before your entire body has surfaced, pulling, not sure where yet, but on the ready….

One wave set. Now you’re out the back all alone. Far from sandbars and sanity both.
Now comes another feeling….

contours and shape and timing are important,
and these fine ladies are our wish for your that
all your good things today, waves or otherwise,
come in pairs :)
